File Extension UFI

File Extension Name: UFI

File Extension Description: The UFI is a file extension for UFOCaptureV2 of SonotaCo. This program has Hex: 56 45 52 53 49 4F 4E and ASCII: VERSION as identifying characters. The .ufi file extension functions as a time-shift-motion-detect-video-recording-software. The program runs on window PC. It inputs signals from video capture devices and records movies direct to the hard disk. The recording of the signals starts several seconds prior to the change on video images and stops a couple of seconds after the image change ends. There is a three dimensional triggering thresholds and masking to eliminate unwanted triggers.

Video capture devices that use DirectX video capture interface are compatible with UFOCaptureV2. This program uses similar general software encode interface used by Windows Media encoder and Windows Movie Maker.

UFI’s time shift parameter uses internal memory buffer which always contains the past video frames. The recording begins from the head frames once it detects a trigger event and lasts until after the end of the event. Available memory and video format type determines how long the head frames will be. The following video format settings are supported:
· internal input video encoding: UYUV, YUY2, I420, IYUV, YV12, DVSD
· resolution: 320x240 to 1920x1280
· frame rate: 10.0 fps to 60.0 fps
The video images are resized to make square pixel. An input with 720 x 480 (4:3 ratio) is resized to display a 640 x 480 true square pixel. This function will work on high-performing CPU. The codec recommended for scientific observation is a non-compressed AVI and on/off (AVI), on (WMV) for audio.

The UFI eliminates trees and ground lights and other unstable areas as trigger options. There are two trigger levels for brightness and area size thresholds. The built-in editor overlay pixel by pixel the detect area. When the number of pixel change (brightness) exceed assigned detect size the UFOCaptureV2 begins recording. There is noise level auto tracking. Setting the minimum frames excludes very transient noises caused by cosmic race. Long clips such as airplanes are automatically deleted. For the capture of instantaneous but very big event such as lightning, there is the extra size setting.

Long term bright objects are identified automatically and framed with several pixels. Scintillation mask pattern can be used to detect even invisible stars. Dark and slow objects are masked. Fixed time interval trigger can be set from 1 min. to 24 hours. The “rec” button is available for manual triggering. Dates, time up to milliseconds, frame number or other strings can be superimposed. There is also automatic still image capturing in bmp or jpeg formats.
