File Extension MOD

File Extension Name: MOD

File Extension Description: The .mod file extension name indicates that the file contains musical notes comprising song melodies and/or different instrumental sound samples. MOD is the first module file format. The .mod file extension is used to represent music in most computer MOD file format except on the Amiga where “mod.” is used as a prefix. The samples make up the play list, each of which is assigned as individual track of the module. The MOD file also determines the pattern of play back (i.e. how and in what order). Files with .mod file extension are widely supported. They can be opened with Mac OS, DeliPlayer, and Noise Tracker among others.

The MODPlug Tracker enables creation of music on your Windows-based PC. This software utilizes features of Microsoft Windows programs. In the creation process, there are 64 channels that can be edited and additional 80 virtual channels to tinker with. The resulting composition can be saved in the formats listed below:

· IT: Impulse Tracker modules.
· MOD: ProTracker modules (4-32 channels, 15/31 samples).
· S3M: ScreamTracker III modules.
· XM: FastTracker II modules.
· WAV: Wave Files (Direct-to-disk recording 8/16/24-bit, mono/stereo)
Multiple songs can be edited simultaneously.

The latest version of ModPlug Tracker supports the common sample formats below:
· .AIF/.AIFF/.8SVX/.8SV: Apple AIFF and 8SVX Audio Files
· .ITS: Impulse Tracker Samples
· .PAT: UltraSound GF1 Patches (8/16-bit mono)
· .RAW: Support for importing any file as RAW sample data.
· .S3I/.SMP: ScreamTracker 3 / DigiTracker Samples
· .WAV: Uncompressed Windows Wave File (PCM 8/16bit, mono/stereo).
· .XI: Samples from XI instruments.

For accurate playing of the files created by the tracking programs you can use the ModPlug player. This is compatible with the Windows-based personal computers. This player for MOD music files can enhance the play back output. Standard features help customize the sound. There is the graphical equalizer with preset options. Users can control the sound card driver, mixing and re-sampling, automatic gain control, Dolby surround, extended bass, and reverb. The “mixing panel” can mix two MOD files for creative effect like that of a DJ’s. The output can be set to fit the power of the sound system. This setting can be saved in programmable buttons.
