File Extension SPI

File Extension Name: SPI

File Extension Description: The .spi file extension name corresponds to Stupsi Script. This SPI file is similar to Windows Task Scheduler. The Nudger program can serve as a computer monitor that notifies the administrator if there are changes in the important services.

The SPI file has more triggers compared to the default Windows Task Scheduler which is limited to a fixed date/time. Many different events can trigger this task scheduler. Among the trigger events are:
· Time: perform schedule action at a given time of a day on a specified day of a month
· Date: scheduled action at one specified time and date
· Interval: perform recurring processes in a given time interval
· Check folder/check for file: check for new files in a given time interval
· Check if folder has become empty
· Folder and file modification: trap changes in file system

In the interval option are several event triggers:
· Act in case of a window opened on the server (some error message for example)
· Check databases and act according to the retrieved rows
· Act in case of a task not running
· Act in case of a service not running any more
· Act in case of loosing network connection to a host
· Act in case of running out of hard disk space on any share or drive

Other specific conditions can also be defined. These safeguards against skipping events that needs to be fulfilled. In response to the trigger of the scheduler, a command line can be called. Command lines may be an EVA scripts, VB scripts or an action like sending pop-up messages to clients. Other command lines are 1) SQL statements on any database accessible using ODBC, 2) reboot of server with or without automatic re-login, 3) starting and stopping of services, or 4) closing of application and outright killing of the process.

The Nudger can log all scheduled tasks to a database which can be used for creating daily, weekly, or monthly statistics regarding batch jobs. Future actions can be lined up or set at the same time. It may be ignored if events of the same serialization group occur. The trigger event can be ignored also if the task is already running.
